The Ultimate Guide to Beach Day Adventures in Delaware: From Relaxation to Fun!

Welcome to your go-to guide for discovering Delaware’s best beach spots! If you’re like me, constantly dreaming of beach trips and road escapes, Delaware’s coastline might just become your new favorite. Whether you’re seeking fun, relaxation, or a little of both, the state’s beach towns have something for everyone. So, pack your sunscreen, get ready for some great food, unique shops, and maybe even a few surprises. Let’s dig in!

Ocean City, Maryland: For Party Lovers and Fun Seekers

When I was younger, Ocean City, Maryland was my go-to beach. It’s a hotspot for the party crowd and definitely a favorite for students on spring break. If you’re ready to let loose and enjoy a beach party atmosphere, this is where you’ll want to be. It’s loud, lively, and full of energy—perfect for a night out or an exciting weekend.

Lewes vs. Rehoboth Beach: What’s Your Vibe?

When you’re not in the mood for the party scene, Delaware’s beaches offer a variety of experiences. If you want more than just a day of sun and sand, Rehoboth Beach is packed with activities. There’s plenty to do—whether it’s dining, shopping, or just walking the bustling Rehoboth Ave.

Beware, parking in Rehoboth is mostly metered, especially near the beach. Trust me, you don’t want a parking ticket to ruin your day! If you’re lucky enough to snag a free spot a bit off the main road, take it. It’s worth the extra walk to avoid the hassle.

Lewes, on the other hand, is the laid-back cousin of Rehoboth. It’s perfect for those who prefer a slower pace, with more refined dining options and a calm, quaint atmosphere. Grab a coffee, stroll the cute streets, and just soak it all in.

Rehoboth vs. Lewes: Bustling beach town or laid-back charm? What’s your pick?

Rehoboth Beach Must-Dos

1. The Boardwalk Experience

A trip to Rehoboth Beach isn’t complete without a stroll down the boardwalk. It’s the perfect place for people-watching, grabbing a quick bite, and soaking in the ocean views. I always make two stops: Candy Kitchen (because my sweet tooth demands it) and Thrasher’s Fries—vinegar-soaked fries that scream beach tradition.

2. Pizza Showdown: Grotto’s vs. Nicola’s

If you’re traveling with family, Grotto’s Pizza is probably already on the list. It’s a local staple, known for its rooftop deck, but I’ve discovered a tastier option—Nicola’s Pizza. Originally just across the boulevard, Nicola’s has now moved to Lewes, DE. The flavor is richer, and it’s become my go-to spot. I will miss the old location but trust me, it’s worth the extra drive!

3. Stoneworks Lapidary – Rock Lovers Rejoice

I can’t resist a good rock shop, and Stoneworks Lapidary in Rehoboth is my favorite. Whether you’re a collector or just browsing, it’s a fun stop for unique souvenirs.

Lewes, Delaware: A Relaxing Getaway

When I’m looking for a slower pace, I head to Lewes, a charming little town filled with quaint shops and cozy cafes. My absolute favorite spot is the Lewes Bake Shoppe. But a word to the wise: get there early! Their pastries sell out fast, and the coffee is so good, there’s always a line.

1. The Station on Kings

The Station on Kings is another must-visit. Not only does it have a beautifully curated selection of home goods and gifts, but the garden area is perfect for a relaxing breakfast or lunch. Be warned, though—the parking lot fills up quickly, even out of season.

2. Nector Cafe

If you love fresh juices and long brunches, Nector is the spot for you. Tucked away in downtown Lewes, it’s a cozy café with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, perfect for a slow morning or casual lunch.

Shopping and Exploring in Lewes

After indulging in all that delicious food, a stroll down Second Street is a must. Whether it’s exploring the treasures at Lewes Mercantile Antiques. Or if you are looking for a book to read on the beach check out Biblion: used books & rare finds. There’s something for every type of shopper. And for those into home décor, Jeff West Home is the perfect place to find something special to take home.

Don’t Forget the Outlets!

If you’re in the mood for some shopping, Delaware’s tax-free outlets are a great way to score deals. With no sales tax, you’ll find everything from designer brands to everyday essentials.

Bonus Adventure: Cape May-Lewes Ferry

For those spending several days in the area, consider taking a ride on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. This scenic trip between Delaware and New Jersey is a fun way to explore Cape May and enjoy some time on the water.
