NYC Weekend Guide: Art, Eats, and Adventure

New York City may be called “The City That Never Sleeps,” but it’s also the city where you’ll never go hungry—especially if you’re vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian. From art to architecture and food to fashion, NYC promises unforgettable experiences, even for a quick weekend getaway. If you’re like me, you might struggle to leave The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) once you step inside. But don’t worry—this guide blends iconic cultural stops with plant-forward culinary gems so you can make the most of your time. Let’s dig in!

Morning: Dive Into Art at The Met

Let’s start where my heart always leads me: The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Located on the edge of Central Park, The Met is a treasure trove of human history, with galleries that span ancient Egypt to modern-day masterpieces. For art enthusiasts, it’s paradise.

Pro Tip: Parking is free on Sunday, so arrive early to avoid the crowds. Zero in on your must-see exhibits, like the Temple of Dendur or the Impressionist wing, and don’t miss the seasonal rooftop garden for breathtaking views of Central Park.

Stepping back in time: Medieval armor at The Met, where history and artistry collide.

Midday: Central Park Serenity & Foodie Delights

Once you’ve soaked in enough culture, step outside and let Central Park work its magic. Whether you’re strolling the Mall, snapping photos at Bethesda Terrace, or rowing a boat on the lake, the park is an oasis in the city.

Feeling hungry? Venture to the Upper West Side for brunch at Beyond Sushi, where creative, plant-based sushi rolls will wow your taste buds. Or, if bagels are calling your name, head to Russ & Daughters Cafe for a classic New York bagel topped with cream cheese and lox—a pescatarian’s dream.

I was lucky enough to enjoy Tavern on the Green for my birthday one year. This iconic restaurant is especially great during warmer months when you can dine outside under the twinkling lights. If you’re up for a short walk, Bryant Park offers a casual option with a Whole Foods Market food by-the-pound buffet perfect for grabbing a quick, healthy meal and watching the NYC action below.

Finding Zen in the heart of NYC

Afternoon: Explore the Upper East Side

After refueling, wander through the charming streets of the Upper East Side. Pop into The Frick Collection if you’re craving more art—this smaller, historic museum offers an intimate glimpse into the Gilded Age ( it’s temporarily closed but will reopen in April). Alternatively, spend some time browsing high-end boutiques along Madison Avenue, even if it’s just for window shopping.

Need a sweet pick-me-up? Treat yourself to a decadent cookie at Levain Bakery or vegan gelato at Van Leeuwen. Both spots offer a perfect excuse to take a break before your next adventure.

Sweets and the city—name a better combo.

Evening: Walk the High Line & Indulge in Dinner

Make your way downtown to the High Line, an elevated park built on a historic rail line. It’s a great spot for golden-hour views, urban gardens, and public art. End your stroll at Chelsea Market, where the food options are as eclectic as the city itself.

For dinner, try Scarpetta’s Roasted Squash or the Burrata. Another option is the savory green lentils at ABC Kitchen. You’ll savor dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious.

Dinner with a view—High Line style.

Night: Brooklyn Bridge Views

No NYC trip is complete without taking in the skyline from the Brooklyn Bridge. Walk across the bridge at night to see the city lights twinkle against the East River. It’s the perfect way to reflect on your adventure.

Until next time, NYC. You’ll always have my heart.

Where to Stay: Budget-Friendly Options

For solo travelers, convenience and comfort are key. Check out Pod Hotel for modern, budget-friendly rooms or Arthouse Hotel for boutique vibes near Central Park (OK, this one’s on my bucket list to stay). For a stylish and comfortable stay, the Park Terrace Hotel is another great option, offering a welcoming atmosphere and stunning views of Bryant Park. Either way, you’ll be perfectly situated to explore the city.

NYC is Calling!

New York City offers an endless array of adventures, from iconic art collections to drool-worthy plant-based meals. Whether you’re strolling through Central Park, indulging in a Levain cookie, or marveling at the skyline from the Brooklyn Bridge, this city guarantees memories you’ll cherish forever.
